18 BONHAM ROAD

Hong Kong, 2023

18 Bonham Road is a residential project located in Mid-Levels West, Hong Kong.

Our design adopts an open plan layout that combines the living room, dining room and the entrance foyer together to form a large living area.

Furnished with natural materials, deep leather armchairs and sofas that function as day beds, the design reveals subtle layers of materiality, comfort, and functionality.

We worked closely with the client on material selection. All the chosen materials and finishes are inspired by the travel experiences of the client. Therefore we designed the spaces with the client’s memories in them.

A green onyx wall in the living room recalls the client’s favorite travel lounge while touches of blue color in the study room with a low study table harken back to the client’s business trips in Japan.

Wood screen partition walls subdivide the spaces into different zones. The screens block direct views into the living area upon entering the front door, creating a sense of privacy but at the same time allowing visual connection across the whole space.

A dark stone is used on the ledge of the cabinets as a design accent, allowing the owner to rest cups on it without having to worry about staining. This provides extra durability and ease of maintenance.

It is our hope that the furniture will age well with repeated use, lasting at least over ten years and be more beautiful a decade from now.

Floor planks have been carefully selected and tone matched during the construction process in order to minimize visual defects and color difference.

We developed a refined material palette for the project based on the combination of natural stone and wood. The use of natural materials help create a comfortable yet luxurious living environment.

The study room and kitchen provide quieter moments of surprise, through the juxtaposition of materials and the celebration of material qualities.

We developed custom designed furniture for the client based on specific requirements for storage. Each piece is crafted with exquisite workmanship using materials and colors that compliment the overall design.
